Meet our Pastor...

Bishop Ron L. Bynum has a calling to serve God's people.  His heart's desire is to worship God with all his heart.  Rodney Pike Church of God is a spiritually fortified congregation due to the passion for the word of God that our pastor has.

Pastor Bynum was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky.  He and his wife, Leah, have been actively involved in pastoral ministry for over twenty-five years.  Sixteen of those years were spent in the greater Cincinnati, Ohio area.  They now call Gallia County home.

God has birthed a great vision into the heart of Pastor Bynum for the Rodney Pike Church of God and the surrounding region.

A "Now" Word

Summer 2008

Hebrews 10:23 states “Let us hold fast the profession (confession) of our faith without wavering; ( for he is faithful that promised;) To “hold fast” is to be tenacious.

A tenacious person is one who hangs in there, who doesn’t give up, doesn’t back up, and doesn’t shut up. You can say that the greatest ability in the world is “stickability.”

Sometimes we face walls of resistance, but resistance motivates tenacity. The greater the opposition the more determined we become.

We find in the scriptures that God gave the people of Israel the Promised Land, however he gave them instruction to go in and possess it. Joshua 1:11 – “ . . . to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess.” After the easy victory at Jericho, Israel had to conquer every inch of ground they gained in the conquest of the land. God was teaching them an important lesson that resistance leads to maturity. There is no blessing without a battle, no crown without a cross, and no success without a sacrifice.

I graduated from Sallie Phillips Durrett High School in 1978. I attended there from the seventh grade to the twelfth. I remember the first morning I entered that school. I was an uneasy seventh grader in an unknown land. The first thing I saw was the large insignia on the floor with the school motto written on it, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going!”

I like what James 1:2-4 says in the New Living Translation Bible.

“Dear brothers and sisters,* whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.”

“Ready for anything” or as the Apostle Paul puts it in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

There is much ground to be gained in our lives, a Promised Land that God has given us to possess, the healing of our families, salvation for our loved ones, help for the hurting around us. Hang in there. Don’t give up. Don’t back up, and don’t shut up. The Body of Christ is a conquering army. Remember, “he is faithful that promised.”

A "Now" Word

Spring 2008

At the beginning of the year God gave us the vision “be the church,” and with that vision He has moved mightily. We have experienced over twenty people accepting Christ as their personal Savior since the beginning of this year. I believe that God is giving us a heart for the lost. We are committed to building the kingdom of heaven. I can see the vision becoming personal to many people as they live out being an evangelistic worshipper, anointed, and relating to those around them. When God’s people are focused on fulfilling the purposes of their relationship with God and others, nothing can stop them. We have God’s anointing and His word to tear down any hindrance or obstacle that stands in the way of us fulfilling the Great Commission !

Through out this year, our goal is to announce that, “Rodney Pike Church of God has left the building.” During this summer there are plans being made to create opportunities for evangelism.

On June 21st , “Build a Bridge “ outreach, will be going on in the parking lot of the Big Lots store. It will be an opportunity for us to radiate God’s love and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. The worship we enjoy inside the confines of our comfortable sanctuary will be taken out in public, so everyone can experience God’s presence. Let’s feed people with a free hot dog and the bread of life. We’ll give free baby items to needy moms letting them know that there is a Heavenly Father that will care for them and their children.

Let me challenge you to get involved with “Build a Bridge” outreach day by

stretching out hands of compassion and ministry to the hurting, searching, and the lost.

Can anything be worse than being lost? Yes, being lost and having no one looking for you.

We are going out and looking!

Luke 14:21-23

'Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the city and invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind.' After the servant had done this, he reported, 'There is still room for more.' So his master said, 'Go out into the country lanes and behind the hedges and urge anyone you find to come, so that the house will be full.”

Acts 2:47- “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.”

May God grant you great favor and new life in this beautiful Spring season.

In His Grip,

Pastor Bynum

A "Now" Word
Winter 2008

Our  vision  for  2008 is quite simply "be the church!"  We have purposely used lower case  letters to express the fact that we are not the one an only church.  Yet  we do want to be the church as outlined in Acts 2:47;  "And the  Lord  added  to  the  church daily those who were being saved."

This year we will be the evangelistic church.  Throughout  this year I want it to be recognized and announced:  "Rodney  Pike Church of God has left  the  building!"   With every  resource  possible, we are going out! Every  leader,  member,  dollar,  program, activity,   building,  van or vans will be committed to building the population of heaven!  This  is  the  issue:   Lost people matter to God!

Can anything  be worse than  being lost?  Yes,  being  lost  and  having no one looking for you. In Luke 15, Jesus tells three compelling parables: one about lost  sheep, one  about a lost coin,  and one about a lost son. In each of the  three,  a  big  party  was celebrated when the lost was found.

Heaven  doesn't  rejoice  when we break a record, build a building, or  preach a great sermon. Heaven rejoices when the lost are found!  God  did  not  raise  up the church to make bad people good, or good people better.  He raised up the church  to make dead people live! Let it be  said  that Rodney  Pike  Church of God has decided that the death of Jesus is not  going  to  be in vain in our city!

Let us be a worshipping church. Worshipping  in  prayer,  praise  and  the word.  Connecting with God in intercession for the needs of people around us.

Our  prayer is to become an anointed church in mission, ministry and message.  We are who we are. And that is a spirit-filled  pentecostal body, having  a partnership with the Holy Spirit in direction and  delivery. Our  desire is  to  have  the anointing so present  in our midst that we fall on our faces to worship!

Lastly, we desire to be a relational church.  In  action, assimilation  and acceptance. A church that demonstrates a strong relationship with God, believers and non-believers.   Stretching  out  hands  of compassion  and  ministry  to  the  hurting and the searching!
Indeed  2008 will  be the year that Rodney Pike  Church of God chooses to be the church!

A "Now" Word

Fall 2007

In the eight years that I have had the privilege to pastor at Rodney Pike Church of God, I have found that the greatest attribute we have is the power of relationship.

This year has brought many struggles and challenges to our homes. All of us have been touched by these events in some way. It is during times of trial that the true value of our relationships are realized. After numerous prayers have been offered up in support for each other.

The Early church in Acts 2:44, was described as having this special relationship, stating;“And all the believers met together constantly and shared everything with each other.” In the New Testament there are seven references to the word "together." These seven “togethers” are seven links of a chain which connect us to Christ and each other.  They are as follows;  crucified together; quickened together; raised together; seated together in heavenly places; sufferers together; heirs together; and glorified together. God’s plan is for us to be together.

Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “relationship” as a “close connection.”

God also wants His people to have a close connection with Him and each other. Isolation will only lead to desolation for the child of God. Our relationship with God and with each other requires effort on our part. The holiday season is approaching and all of us will either be contributing to, or will need to draw from the important relationship with our God and also our loved ones.

During this season, there are three words I would like for us to focus on concerning relationship: remember, restore, and reinforce. Remember the good things God has done for you and His faithfulness to His part of the relationship. Also remember the good moments that have been spent between you and your loved ones, that’s always easy for me during Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you feel that God and you are distant, make the step to restore that most important relationship. You will discover His hands are already stretched out, to receive and restore. With God’s help, you can be the one to initiate the first step toward restoring a broken relationship with a loved one.

In our life, we all have good relationships, however it is wise to always try and reinforce, strengthen what is already good, to make it even better. We should be grateful that we have a loving Heavenly Father and this great family of God! We are not alone. We have God and each other! I feel blessed!
